7-Day Taste of Greece Tour Package from Athens
Itinerary
Day 1: Athens
Welcome to Greece! Upon arrival, make your own way to the hotel for the start of the tour. This evening we will enjoy an included dinner at a local Athens restaurant in Plaka, a historical neighborhood near the Acropolis.
Day 2: Thermopylae – Meteora – Kalambaka
This morning it is an early start as we head north. On our way to Thermopylae, we will stop to admire the statue of Leonidas, King of Sparta. We’ll then drive on to Meteora, where we’ll see amazing rock formations, like sandstone towers, stand ageless and have provided monks with sacred retreat over the centuries.
Several monasteries are hidden on top of Meteora and today you will have the option to see the Varlaam Monastery and the Great Meteoron Monastery, Meteora’s tallest, largest and oldest monastery. The view over the plain is breathtaking and Meteora is considered one of the most beautiful areas of mainland Greece and is part of the list of world heritage monuments by UNESCO. We’re traveling to Kalambaka after our visit, where we’ll check in at our hotel and enjoy an included dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Kalambaka – Delphi
After breakfast, we will depart and cross the mountains towards central Greece, arriving in Delphi, check in at our hotel and make our way out again, heading straight for our visit to the ancient site of Delphi and museum. In ancient times Delphi was considered the earth’s “omphalos” (navel), and the place where people from all over the world would visit to receive an “oracle” from “Pythia.”
We will admire the Apollo Shrine, the Treasury of the Athenians and we will also visit the Delphi Museum with the Charioteer’s famous bronze statue. The evening is yours to enjoy in your leisure time, with a dinner included at the restaurant.
Day 4: Delphi – Olympia
This morning we are leaving Delphi behind and heading south towards the Peloponnese peninsula. The road will lead to the formidable Rio-Antirio Bridge across Itea and Nafpaktos. Crossing the bridge, we will arrive at the small village of ancient Olympia, Built on the banks of the Alfio River, Olympia is beautiful, green, and smooth; it was the home of the original Olympic Games that started in 776 BC.
We will stop for some Olive Oil degustations before checking into our hotel. Did you know that Greece is the third largest olive oil producer but its highest consumption? After check-in, we’ll enjoy a tour through the remains of the Ancient Olympic Complex, including the Temple of Zeus, the Palestra, and the workshop of Phidias. Later we’ll visit the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, one of Greece’s richest museums. The evening is yours to enjoy in your leisure time, with a dinner included at the restaurant.
Day 5: Mycenae – Nafplion – Epidaurus – Corinth canal – Athens
We will cross the Peloponnese mountains this morning to arrive at Mycenae for our visit to Agamemnon’s grave and the famous Lion’s gate. Our day goes on to the picturesque town of Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece, dominated by castle Palamidi.
We’ll have some free time for lunch and exploring the picturesque narrow streets with neoclassical buildings, and walking along the seafront promenade with amazing views over the fortified Bourtzi Islet guarding Nafplion port entrance. We will then fly to Epidaurus, the most important center of healing in ancient times and renowned for its theatre, the best preserved in Greece, with incomparable acoustics. We then travel back to Athens to admire the Corinth Canal, with a short stop along the way.
Day 6: Athens
We will do a panoramic tour of Athens after our breakfast. We’ll see the University, the National Library, the Greek Parliament, and the Unknown Soldier’s Tomb guarded by the Evzones, the Panathinaikon Marble Stadium where the first modern Olympics took place, Hadrian’s Arch, Olympian Zeus Temple, and other city monuments and landmarks. Our panoramic tour will end with our guided visit to the Acropolis Museum, considered one of Europe’s best museums. We then proceed on foot to the Acropolis Sacred Rock.
We’ll visit the Propylaea, the Erechtheion, Athena Nike’s temple, and the Parthenon. We will then walk along the street Apostolou Pavlou towards the neighborhood of Thisio for an included lunch at a local restaurant. You then have the afternoon free to explore Athens at your leisure.
Day 7: Athens
Our tour ends after breakfast today, and there’s an airport transfer options open. We hope you enjoyed your Greek tour!
