In the 5th arrondissement of Paris, France, you’ll find one of the most famous examples of neoclassical architecture: the Pantheon. After having been given the mandate by King Louis XV to be constructed as a church in honor of Saint Genevieve, who is considered to be the patron saint of Paris, the building now serves primarily as a mausoleum for notable figures from French history.
The magnificent architecture of the Pantheon, in addition to the works of art it contains and the sheer size of the building, is a sight to behold. However, the highlight of the visit is the Crypt, which is home to the tombs of a number of notable people, including Madame Curie, Louis Braille, Victor Hugo, and a great number of others.
In addition to being the first major monument to be constructed in Paris, the Pantheon was also the first structure of its kind to provide visitors with a 360-degree view of the city.
