Discover majestic waterfalls, towering glaciers, and black sand beaches on this day trip from Reykjavik to tour the enchanting southern coast of Iceland.
First up on our journey is the powerful and imposing Skogafoss waterfall, the icon of Iceland and the most picturesque waterfall in the world. According to ancient Viking legends, there is a treasure hidden away behind its 25 meter wide cascades, but none have dared step behind its majestic falls to see if it’s true.
Next up, we’ll continue east to Solheimajokull Glacier, where we’ll suit up and grab our gear for a 2-hour glacier walk. Journey with an expert guide out over this enchanting winder wonderland of blue glacier ice, majestic views, and towering mountain peaks. Make sure to bring your camera to capture the best panoramic photos of the region.
Now it’s off for a romantic stroll along the famous black sand beach of Reynisfjara. The icy waters here intermix with the volcanic pebbles, perfectly displaying why Iceland is the land of ice and fire. Along the way we’ll encounter the Gardar, imposing basalt columns that line the coastal cliffs and look eerily similar to organ pipes.
On our way back to Reykjavik will see one of the most stunning waterfalls mother nature has ever produced: Seljalandsfoss. Unlike Skogafoss, nothing impedes you from stepping behind this 60 meters tall giant and photographing the most enchanting postcard for your friends back home.
There will be a maximum of 12 hikers per group on this Glacier Hike. Sólheimajökull glacier, located on Iceland’s South Coast, is a relatively straightforward glacier trek. Glacier equipment and an experienced and certified glacier guide will be given for you.
From Reykjavik, the trip provides a pick-up service all year round. It’s an excellent way to spice up your stay in Iceland. On the way to the glacier, you’ll pass through two legendary Icelandic waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, as well as Reynisfjara, Iceland’s most famous black sand beach.

Itinerary
Seljalandsfoss
One of Iceland’s classic waterfalls, this one has a little twist. Certainly not one of Iceland’s biggest waterfalls but what makes Seljalandsfoss different is that most of the year you can actually walk behind the cascading water. This really makes for a unique experience.
Skogafoss
Skogafoss is one of Iceland’s classic waterfalls and is truly magnificent. 65 meters tall and 25 meters wide making it also one of the biggest waterfalls in the country. Legend has it that there is a chest of gold hidden behind the waterfall. You’ll have to be as strong as a Viking to get to it though.
Reynisfjara Beach
In Reynisfjara you’ll see a beautiful black sand beach and at times incredibly powerful waves from the Atlantic ocean. There are also some pretty awesome basalt columns on the beach and rock formations called “Reynisdrangar” that rise from the ocean close to the shore. Reynisfjara has often appeared on lists over top 10 most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world.
Solheimajokull Glacier
Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s 4th largest glacier on the South Coast of Iceland. It is one of the most easily accessible glaciers to reach from Reykjavík, just 158 kilometers (98 miles) away. This is where you will hike on the ice, exploring glacial features and learning about its formation.
