When booking, you can choose between regular and first-class rail travel. Then, on your own, travel to London’s Euston Station to board your train to England’s stunning Lake District National Park, which is nestled among the rugged Cumbrian fells.

Meet your pleasant local guide and depart on your tour in a cozy, air-conditioned minivan after disembarking at Oxenholme station. As you follow the banks of Lake Windermere on your way to Waterhead, a favorite childhood haunt of the much-loved early 20th-century children’s storyteller Beatrix Potter, admire the stunning falls and glassy lakes.

If you’re on a trip between April and October, get on a sightseeing boat and take a scenic cruise through this beautiful stretch of water. Continue on to Hawkshead, an enchanting village with cobbled streets and whitewashed cottages.

Enjoy some spare time to explore on your own, including a visit to the Old Grammar School, where a young William Wordsworth attended between 1779 and 1787. After lunch (at your own expense), drive to Tarn Hows, a renowned beauty spot known for its stunning lake and mountain scenery.

Summer Tour Itinerary (April – October):

Depart Tarn Hows for Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s old-world farmhouse purchased in 1905.

Show your included ticket and take a walk through the charming interior, which has been preserved as much as possible from Beatrix’s period, with much of her furniture still in place. Recognize some of the items and features from her books when exploring the gift shop and garden.

After that, head to the Lindeth Howe, a hotel housed in a Victorian mansion once owned by Beatrix Potter. Enjoy a delectable cream tea before being dropped off at Oxenholme station for your return journey to Euston.

Itinerary for the Winter Tour (November – March):

After spending some time at Tarn How, travel through the picturesque Yewdale Valley, past Skelwith Bridge and Yew Tree Tarn, to Rydal Mount and Gardens, where poet William Wordsworth lived from 1813 to 1850.

Visit Bowness, a beautiful town on the banks of Lake Windermere, after a guided tour of the house and garden and a cream tea. Before meeting up with your guide and driving to Oxenholme to catch your train back to London, take some spare time and maybe visit the award-winning World of Beatrix Potter visitor center (at your own expense).

Itinerary

Lake District National Park

The tour begins in Windermere and travels through the Langdale Valley, which is rich in history and agricultural property. You will drive along the popular Lake Windermere on your way to the Langdale Valley, and our Driver/Guide will tell you many stories about our wonderful National Park.

Hawkshead

Hawkshead is a quaint medieval village with winding alleyways and charming squares. It is home to a grammar school that was founded in 1585 and attended by William Wordsworth, the popular English poet. On a hill overlooking the village is St Michael and All Angels Church, which has been there since the 16th century.

While we’re on the subject of Hawkshead, we can’t leave out the delicious Hawkshead Relish Company, which is well worth a visit! Hawkshead is a historic village with a lot of interesting things to see and do, which is why we include it in so many of our tours.

Hawkshead Grammar School

Hawkshead Grammar School was founded in 1585 by Archbishop Edwin Sandys of York, who petitioned Queen Elizabeth I for a charter to establish a governing body. Latin, Greek, and sciences, such as arithmetic and geometry, were taught in the early School.

Bowness-on-Windermere

Bowness-on-Windermere is a small town in the county of Windermere is a town in Cumbria, England, located in South Lakeland. The town has become a tourist hotspot due to its location on the banks of Windermere.

What better way to unwind after a day of exploring than with an English afternoon cream tea at the Lindeth Howe Country Hotel, which was once owned by Beatrix Potter herself? Cream tea in the afternoon Enjoy tea and scones while taking in views of some of the popular author’s favorite countryside, which inspired her novels.

Tarn Hows

Before moving to Tarn How’s, you’ll have time to take in the breathtaking scenery of Coniston. Tarn Hows is another secret gem in the Lake District. Many artists and authors have been inspired by it, and once you see it, you can understand why. The tour will then take you to the final destination, which is a trip to Hawkshead, where you will admire the views.

Coniston Water

Coniston is a lovely village famous for Coniston Water and Donald Campbell CBE, which set a new world water speed record of 276mph. You may also see the Steam Yacht Gondola, a restored Victorian steam-powered yacht that offers Coniston Water cruises.
