2-Hour Edinburgh Sightseeing Tour

Hop on our Edinburgh bus tour in central Edinburgh at Waterloo Place. We travel along Princes Street from here, past Scott’s Monument, dedicated to Sir Walter Scott, the famous poet and writer.

Continuing down Princes Street under the impressive Castle of Edinburgh, you’ll hear about the famous building itself and the beautiful gardens under it.

Then we head to the Grassmarket with a variety of small shops, traditional Scottish pubs and restaurants. It worked as a lively market place as well as a notorious place of execution. Back in the day, one last whisky was awarded to Edinburgh’s criminals in the Last Drop pub before it was strung up nearby.

You’ll learn about the most famous dog in Edinburgh, Greyfriars Bobby, and travel around the university’s central area. The buildings here are amazing, and there is an opportunity to see some of the magical places that inspired the books of Harry Potter. We’ll point out the Harry Potter franchise’s birthplace: the Elephant House Cafe on George IV Bridge, where some of the books are said to have been written by JK Rowling.

Then we are working our way up to the famous Royal Mile in Edinburgh with a brief introduction to Old Town.

Meandering back to the New Town, we went past the headquarters of Bank of Scotland and Scotland’s National Gallery. Here you will find out about the Scottish pioneers, poets and writers who once lived in the beautiful Georgian buildings.

Next, we head off the beaten track across the Dean Bridge to the quaint Dean Village in Edinburgh. Once a separate village, this residential area is packed with charming cobbled lanes. We continue to explore the area where you can see Stewart’s Melville College and the Modern Art Galleries. Here we hear more about Edinburgh as a backdrop for different movies and TV productions, including Trainspotting, Sunshine on Leith, and Inspector Rebus.

Returning to the center of town, we pass the impressive St Mary’s Cathedral, one of three Edinburgh cathedrals. Crossing the prominent business district of Edinburgh, Melville Street, we travel along George Street and Queen Street before heading past Calton Hill. It offers one of the city’s best views with its classically influenced architecture.

From here we head down to the foot of Arthur’s Seat, past the Burns monument to Holyrood Park where there is a royal Holyrood Palace. Our final leg of the journey takes us up through the Canongate, past the John Knox House and the Scottish Storytelling Center before heading back to Waterloo Place for the tour’s end.
