Perth – Yanchep – Cervantes – Nambung – Lancelin – Perth
At 8:30 AM this fun packed full day trip leaves Perth and the first stop is Yanchep National Park where we can walk along the 240 meter Koala Boardwalk and get close to Koalas as they sit in eucalyptus trees.
You can also see the Western Grey Kangaroo grazing by the lake early in the morning as an abundance of indigenous birds perching in forest and wetlands. We will get back on the Explorer bus and head north up the Indian Ocean Road for just over two hours to the small fishing town of Cervantes after an hour or so spent with these magnificent Australian icons.
We will visit the Lobster Shack once we are in Cervantes to take a first-hand look at the multi-million dollar lobster industry in the area. Before going into the factory to walk directly over the 20 tons of live rock lobsters that are housed in the Lobster Shack, the tour begins with a video demonstration to learn how the rock lobster is caught. The tour provides an audio guide as well as a children’s edition in several different languages including English, Mandarin, Japanese, French, Italian, German and Korean.
We’ll sit down at the Lobster Shack for lunch following the tour, which is included in the tour bill. You can do so for an additional fifteen bucks if you want to switch to a new lobster lunch.
We’ll take a quick drive to Nambung National Park after lunch to have a close look at the Pinnacles. The park itself occupies an area of 17,487 hectares and offers an extensive variety of animals and bird life with a natural habitat.
Fortunately, there is a new discovery center for us that houses interesting interpretive displays with descriptions of the Pinnacles themselves, as well as the park’s flora and fauna. Before setting off on foot for an easy walk through this eerie yet fascinating landscape, we can see the Pinnacles on a scenic drive through the park aboard the bus.
Back on the bus, we’ll head south for an hour to end the day in Lancelin, an adventure-filled town. You will appreciate the extensive sand dunes here and maybe try sandboarding for the more daring explorers (think snowboarding, but substitute sand for the snow).
At about 7:30 PM, we will return to Perth from Pinnacles Day Trip, having enjoyed some of the best activities the area has to offer.
