Konopiste Castle Day Trip from Prague
Today, you will visit one of Bohemia’s most beautiful chateaus – Konopiste, where you can admire its large park and garden area along with its fascinating collection of historical furniture, sculptures, paintings, tapestries, and countless hunting trophies. It was once the home of the successor to the Austrian throne, Ferdinand d’ Este, whose assassination in Sarajevo in 1914 served as a pretext to the start of World War I.
Your tour begins with a 45-minute drive to Konopiste Castle from your Prague hotel or a centrally placed meeting spot of your choice. Take a few minutes to view the castle’s Baroque front and pose for a few selfies before embarking on a 1-hour guided tour inside (not included: 150CZK per person).
Take a glance inside the old residence of Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophia Chotek, and enjoy his huge collection of weapons, armor, and hunting memorabilia. To understand more about Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the events that led to World War I, we’ll go on a journey through his interesting life narrative.
Your driver will be waiting for you when you return to Prague, so you can explore the castle grounds and stroll around the beautiful Rose Garden on your own. From April through October, visitors can visit Konopit Castle, also closed on Mondays.
