Golden Circle, Iceland

The Golden Circle is a famous route in southern Iceland, covering about 300 kilometers of roads from Reykjavík into the southern uplands of Iceland and back. The Golden Circle consists of three equally stunning locations in southwest Iceland: Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss waterfall. These are the main stops when driving around the Golden Circle.

Since the classic path spans about 230 kilometers, the Golden Circle route can easily be completed in a single day (140 miles). The path can be completed in just over three hours. However, you must provide time to enjoy the attractions, take photographs, and remain hydrated.

The majority of guided coach tours will take the better part of a “9-to-5” day to visit all of the stops along the route. If you go self-guided, however, you can decide how long you want to spend at each attraction. You can also start early or finish late for a more peaceful sightseeing experience.
