Bike Bangkok’s Hidden Oasis

Bang Krachao is a paradise for cyclists with seemingly infinite elevated concrete bike routes through green mangrove forests, tiny farms, quiet villages, and Buddhist temples.

Bang Krachao is a green oasis in the center of the concrete jungle of Bangkok. Bang Krachao is formed like a gigantic green lung on a gigantic oxbow in the Chao Phraya River. This is where it receives the Green Lung nickname from Bangkok.

Strict zoning and geography shielded its mangrove forests, coconut plantations and gardens from Bangkok’s urban sprawl, making it the Hidden Oasis of Bangkok. There’s nothing like seeing Bangkok Skyscrapers in the distance through the tangles of tree branches.

Bangkok Oasis Breezy Bike TourStarting at the Bearing Skytrain station, you and your bike guide will be pedaling your way to the ferry through back lanes and alleys. Once you and your bicycle cross Bang Krachao’s Chao Phraya River, the true pleasure of cycling starts.

You can encounter birds, a few squirrels, and perhaps a lizard or two, cycling at a leisurely pace and driving along quiet paths. While watching the ship and barge traffic on the Chao Phraya River, stop to visit a family at an ancient betel nut plantation for a snack and refreshing herbal drink.

Back on the bicycle, the next objective is to visit a mangrove conservation area where you can glimpse what the natural state of Bang Krachao once was. Strolling through a labyrinth of tree-lined bike routes, the next stop is a sanctuary for the Hindu God Ganesh, the god of beginnings and the removal of barriers. The last stop on the Bang Krachao path is the local temple and close the ferry landing is the small market.
