Day 1: Munich
Greetings from Munich! Our arrival day is the first day of the trip. Meet your fellow travelers and, depending on your arrival time, head into Munich to see the sights before your tour begins. Munich has a plethora of cultural hotspots in addition to new high-powered manufacturing, designer shopping districts, and sleek BMWs. Day 2: Innsbruck – Neuschwanstein Castle
Today you’ll travel to Innsbruck, stopping first at the popular Neuschwanstein Castle. This castle, with its turrets towering high above the surrounding forest, can conjure up images of classic fairy tales. Take a tour that helps you to get up close and personal with this incredible European icon.
Next, travel to Innsbruck, Austria, which is close by. This is one of the few places on the planet that anyone can find something to enjoy. Extreme sports (thanks to the near proximity of the soaring Nordkette Alps), interesting historical history (thanks to the Habsburg legacy), and lively modern attractions aren’t found in every destination. Arrive in the afternoon and embark on a city orientation tour.
Then you can add an ascent of the Nordkette mountain to your itinerary, or simply explore Innsbruck at your leisure.
Day 3: Vienna – Salzburg
We leave Innsbruck for the splendor of Vienna, stopping in Salzburg for a comfort stop along the way. When we arrive in Vienna, we’ll take a driving tour of the area, which is considered one of the most livable in the world. Few cities can boast such cultural and historical splendor while still maintaining a reputation as a vibrant, modern metropolis, but Vienna does so admirably.
Along with a musical history that includes luminaries such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, as well as artwork by masters such as Klimt, Schiele, and Kokoschka, Vienna has a thriving modern culinary scene, lively pubs and bars, and a slew of clubs and music venues where you can party the night away.
Day 4: Hungary
We’re flying to Budapest, Hungary’s capital, today. This is a city to behold, with natural beauty (it straddles the Danube River) as well as baroque, neoclassical, and art nouveau architecture. When you arrive, take our Budapest driving tour to get a good overview of it. Starting on the Pest side of the Danube, across the river to the Fisherman’s Bastion for breathtaking views of the city and the river below.
Admire the city while driving along the river and seeing the Houses of Parliament. This afternoon is yours to do as you please with the neighborhood.
Day 5: Bratislava – Prague
We’re heading to Prague today, with a pit stop in Bratislava along the way. We’ll arrive in Prague this afternoon. This city is known for its sculpture, architecture, cobblestone streets, and ancient chapels, as well as some of Europe’s best beer. On your first night in Prague, dine at our local restaurant and sample authentic Czech cuisine.
Day 6: Prague
We’ll take a locally guided walking tour of this incredible city this morning, which, since its liberation from communism, has joined other European jewels like Paris, Rome, and Amsterdam to establish itself as one of Europe’s most fascinating destinations. The elegance of Prague’s architecture, including churches, opera houses, concert halls, and parks, reflects the city’s dramatic past.
The rest of the day is yours to explore the city at your leisure. There are numerous beer halls where you can taste a local ale, and those who want to leave their mark on the city can pay a visit to the famous Lennon wall, which is a monument to John Lennon and words of peace that is added to on a regular basis by the city’s thousands of tourists.
Day 7: Munich – Nuremberg
We’ll stop in Nuremberg, Bavaria’s second-largest city, on our way back to Munich. You’ll have a chance to look around before we return to Munich, which is known for its dark beer and frenetic energy. This is your final night on the road, so make the most of it!
