The breathtaking panoramas that can be seen from Zabriskie Point are some of the most frequently captured on camera in all of Death Valley National Park. Zabriskie Point offers visitors an elevated vantage point from which they may gaze at the badlands located below them.
The point was given the name Christian Zabriskie, who was a major person during the heyday of the Pacific Coast Borax Company. These yellow and brown striped hills were formed by the enormous force of water, and even when it is dry, the path carved by this water is apparent. Water has striped these hills in a zigzag pattern.
When one looks further out from the badlands, one may get views of the salt flats that fill the floor of Death Valley, with the hulk of the Panamint Mountains towering above.
When viewed from Zabriskie Point, Manly Beacon stands out as the most prominent geographical feature. This prominent summit stands at an elevation of 823 feet (251 metres) and was named after one of the early 49ers who travelled to the region during the gold rush.
When seen at either sunrise or sunset, Manly Beacon shines with an extra-special brilliance.
From the Furnace Creek Visitor Centre, the parking area for this breathtaking lookout may be reached by travelling east on Highway 190 for fifteen minutes. This viewpoint is not to be missed! Walk up the hill on the paved trail for a quarter of a mile (400 metres) from the parking lot to reach the point.
Those who are interested in trekking in the Badlands can begin their journey at the Zabriskie Point parking area, which is located at the beginning of the Badlands Loop Trail. The length of the walk is determined in part by the trail that is taken; lengthier excursions may include Gower Gulch, Golden Canyon, or Red Cathedral.
