Wonderful hikes through a wide variety of terrain await you on the spectacular Stanserhorn in the Swiss canton of Nidwalden. Its peak, at an altitude of 1,897 meters, towers over the Uri Alps and offers stunning views.

From the valley, Stans’ local peak is a four-hour climb away, but you can also take the CabriO railway for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The world’s only two-story mountain railway offers spectacular 360-degree vistas, especially from the upper deck.

The Stanserhorn, being easily accessible and well built for tourism, is a great place to take the kids on a day trip into the wilderness. As soon as you reach the mountain station, you can pick from a wide variety of trails of varying difficulty and length.

The walk to the peak takes only half an hour, so even young children can participate. If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, try one of the high-altitude or ridge hikes, which require a mind for heights, sure footing, and sturdy shoes. On the Stanserhorn, you will also receive excellent value from a culinary perspective. While dining on Swiss delicacies like lplermagronen at the revolving Rondorama restaurant, your perspective will constantly shift thanks to the platform’s constant rotation. The marmot habitat is a big hit with the younger visitors.

While out hiking on the Stanserhorn, you can take in the diverse flora and fauna of the PPA. Watching the hang gliders and paragliders take off during the summer’s midday is a sight to behold.

There’s a lot to see and do on the Stanserhorn, but nothing can compare to the view from the peak. Alpine peaks tower above you, and at your feet are picturesque valleys like the Engelbergertal and the Stanser Talboden.

Clear days provide views of the French Vosges and the Black Forest. Starting with Lake Lucerne and ending with Lake Baldegg, this breathtaking backdrop is punctuated by no less than eleven lakes.
