Ride across the spectacular Blue Dandenong Ranges on Australia’s most notable narrow gage railway with bellbirds and kookaburras echoing the whistle of the steam train. Tour of the Yarra Valley’s wealth-a scenic view of farmland and vineyards, haystacks and grapes of wine. Healesville Sanctuary-a uniquely Australian experience-nestled in the forested foothills of the Great Divide where Native wildlife can surround you.
We can explore the Sherbrooke Park, home to tall eucalyptus trees, kookaburras and bellbirds, from your Melbourne Hotel. We’ll enjoy Bush Billy coffee, lamingtons and crackers of vegemite here. We will also have the ability to feed vivid crimson Rosellas and King Parrots by hand!
Then we’ll drive through the magnificent Blue Dandenong Ranges with bellbirds and kookaburras repeating the whistle of the steam train on Australia’s most popular narrow gauge railway, the Puffy Billy Railway. We’re going to enjoy panoramic views of Grantulla Road and go through quaint villages.
From here we head to the Fergusson’s Winery, Yarra Valley’s famous winery, for wine tasting and delicious spit roast lunch with wine as Louise Fergusson’s guests (vegetarian meals are available).
The brand new Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery from Yarra Valley is now included in Fergusson Winery as a’ dessert’ stop after lunch! Experience the Chocolaterie’s free taste and watch European chocolatiers at work.
We will finally reach Healesville Township and visit Healesville Sanctuary-home to over 200 species of Australian birds, mammals and reptiles in a natural bushland environment. While you can walk through kangaroos and wallabies paddocks here, walk through large aviaries and pond areas which take wild birds so close to hand, and witness the demonstration of “Eagles Fly.”
You will also be able to observe the platypus ‘ aquatic life, face to face with a koala, see a fuzzy wombat, and see dingoes, Tasmanian Devils, echidnas, snakes and goannas.
