Federation Square is a contemporary piazza that serves as the public plaza for the central business district of the city of Melbourne. Fed Square (as it is called by locals), which first opened its doors in 2002, is the location of a variety of cultural attractions as well as a wide selection of restaurants, pubs and specialty businesses.
The location and size of Federation Square, which is directly opposite Flinders Street Station, make it perfect for huge events. Fed Square serves as a venue and meeting place for many of Melbourne’s festivals, and it is directly across the street from the station.
The tiered seating is convenient for people watching or for catching a live busking performance by exceptional acrobats, musicians, and others performing in public. There is always something interesting to view on the digital LED screen that is five stories tall, ranging from movies and art programmes to live sporting events.
Over one hundred million people have visited Federation Square since it first opened its doors, making it not only one of the most popular destinations for tourists from other states and countries, but also a much-loved gathering place for residents of Melbourne.
