Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Sacred Valley
We’ll launch our journey to the Sacred Valley of the Incas today.
First, we’re going to visit Awanacancha, a tourist complex where we’re going to see and feed Andean camelids, such as llamas and alpacas, and where the locals are going to teach us the traditional textile weaving and dyeing techniques.
We will then proceed to Inca and Pisac Colonial. Discover one of the most spectacular archaeological sites on top of a mountain in the Sacred Valley, where you can enjoy a glimpse of the colonial city of Pisac. We’re going to take a walking tour here and have some spare time at the art market to do some shopping.
Then, we’ll go to the beautiful Inkariy Museum. We’ll enjoy a tasty lunch here. We will take a guided museum tour to learn more about the various rooms where cultural depictions of ancient Peru’s pre-Hispanic civilizations are displayed.
In the Sacred Valley overnight. Reserve your own hotel, please.
Day 2: Sacred Valley – Cusco
Our quest continues to discover the less-visited treasures of the Inca Sacred Valley. We’re going to start in Moray where, due to the gigantic concentric terraces simulating an amphitheater, the view is amazing. The goal is to recreate 20 different types of micro-climates, a measure which guarantees the empire’s agricultural production.
After that, we’re going to Maras, the popular and ancient salt mines of the colonial period. The contrast between the white wells and the green valley is stunning and a must for a beautiful picture of the Inca Sacred Valley.
We will visit the Ollantaytambo archaeological site in the afternoon, where we will be able to learn about the technique with which the Incas worked on the stones.
Then we’ll go back to Cusco or take the train to the city of Aguas Calientes.
