Koala Conservation Reserve

The Koala Conservation Reserve provides excellent opportunities to see koalas in their native environment, and it’s only 90 minutes from Melbourne.

Various conservation initiatives all throughout the island provide opportunities for tourists to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s most well-known animals.

The Koala Conservation Centre on Phillip Island is only an hour and a half from Melbourne, and it’s a great place to see adorable koalas in their natural environment.

The site gives guests a glimpse into the unique lifestyle, history, and habitat of these little bear-like creatures, which are among Australia’s most popular species.

There is a wide variety of activities available just within the Centre itself. Koalas are allowed to walk freely in an environment that is reminiscent to their natural habitat, a dense eucalypt forest. There are several interconnected treetop boardwalks in the canopies that allow visitors to get closer to the koalas without encroaching on their territory. Over 6 hectares of conveniently accessible bushwalking routes are at your disposal.

As you go along the boardwalk, keep your eyes out for native plants and animals as you take in the stunning wetland scenery that surrounds the facility. Native wallabies and echidnas can also be seen in that area, so keep your eyes peeled!

The annual birth of healthy koala joeys is arguably the most exciting event at the Koala Conservation Centre. The young ones’ development from the time they emerge from their mother’s pouch until they reach adulthood is fascinating to observe, especially if you go at the correct time.
