Fatima Day Trip from Lisbon w/ Batalha, Obidos, and Nazare

We leave Lisbon around 09:00 am and drive to Fatima, a small countryside town famous for the Fatima sanctuary, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the world. The astonishing Basilica was built to commemorate the events of 1917 when three children were blessed with the apparition of the Virgin Mary. Inside the Basilica you’ll also find the tombs of the three children, aside from many other sacred artworks.

Full-day Small-Group Fatima, Batalha, and Obidos Tour from Lisbon

On the other side of the sanctuary is the new Church of the Most Holy Trinity, one of the largest Christian churches in the world. You can also visit the Chapel of the Apparitions, located right on the spot where the apparitions occurred.

We’ll spend around one to one and a quarter-hour at Fatima, after which we’ll make our way to Batalha, a medieval town that gained importance with the construction of the monastery, the consequence of a victory achieved in the Battle of Aljubarrota in the 14th century that kept Portugal independent from Castilla (Spain).

UNESCO-listed Batalha Monastery is more than 600 years old. Entrance to the Batalha Monastery is included in the displayed price. On this tour, we’ll also visit the village of Nazare, a traditional fishing village, and Portugal’s first pilgrimage site. Here the Virgin appeared to a Portuguese Knight who defeated the temptation of the Devil. Here you can try some of the best fish and seafood in the country, in the famous restaurants owned by local fishermen. Here you can also see some of the biggest waves in Europe, surfed by renowned international sportsmen.

Last but not least, we’ll visit Obidos, a picturesque village surrounded by medieval walls from the 12th century. There you will have one hour of free time to wander the streets and try a sour cherry liqueur served in a chocolate cup, compliments of the tour operator.
