Giverny and Auvers-sur-Oise Day Trip from Paris: Monet Gardens Early Access

This small group tour starts near Paris’ Arc de Triomphe. It will take about 45 minutes to drive from Paris to Giverny. In our luxury van with leather seats and air conditioning, you can drive easily. Just before the launch, you will arrive at Monet’s House and Gardens. You will then have 30 minutes of priority access to the gardens before being admitted inside the general public.

The Clos Normand garden is suspended from arched trellises with irises, peonies, daffodils, and nasturtiums. With bamboo shoots and massive willow trees, the Water Garden is lush and green. You could cross the small green Japanese bridge and gaze at the pond’s delicate water lilies.

Your guide will share a great introduction to Claude Monet’s life and his magnificent estate. You will get to know his most famous paintings and find out why he’s known as the Impressionist Dad. You will then have at least 90 minutes of free time to continue exploring the property.

Then the guide takes you to the picturesque little church where on Sundays Monet worshiped. You will consider Claude Monet’s final resting place in the little parish cemetery. You will be able to pay this great man your respects. Then we’re going to go to Auvers-sur-Oise.

Around an hour from Giverny is Auvers-sur-Oise. We’re going to drive the whole way through the stunning French countryside. On arrival at Auvers-sur-Oise, we must take a long break of at least one hour. There is a bakery with fresh baked products as well as several small restaurants at reasonable prices offering regional specialties (own expense).

After lunch, the Auberge Ravoux guesthouse where Vincent Van Gogh spent the last three months of his life will bring you a completely guided tour. You will hear about his last days in this museum of sorts, see the little bedroom where he died, and watch a short film about his personal life and music. There are still the nail holes in the Auberge Ravoux where he bolted his wet canvases to the wall.

Instead your guide will take you along the Artists Trail which snakes its way through the quaint little town and features picture panels in the various spots Vincent has put to paint his easel. You will pause along this path to discover what inspired the final 77 paintings by Vincent Van Gogh. On your way to the grave site of Vincent, we will even visit the Church of Auvers.

Vincent Van Gogh is laid to rest next to his son, and best friend in the world, Theo, in a very modest grave lined with ivy. You may pay this troubled genius your respects and thank him for all the joy he brought to the world. Then take a walk through the wheat field that inspired Wheatfield with Crows in his mysterious drawing.
