The lovely district that is today known as the Barcelona Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) got its name from the fact that it was once the site of a Roman village and that it still contains some relics from its illustrious history. These days, as a result of the ongoing process of modernization, it is simple to identify an old building directly next to a structure that was constructed in the 1990s. People come from all over the world to stay in the Gothic Quarter because it has such a unique combination of the ancient and the new.

3-hour Barcelona, Montjuic Hill, and Gothic Quarter E-Bike TourDue to the fact that the streets are fairly winding and small, it may take some time before you get your bearings in this maze-like structure. If you don’t regularly look up and about you, you run the risk of missing out on some of the best parts of the experience.

The Gothic quarter is home to a number of placas, or squares, that are perfect for unwinding and taking in the sights and sounds of the neighbourhood. Nevertheless, the enormous Cathedral, which is located smack dab in the middle of the neighbourhood, is one of the most popular destinations due to its breathtaking courtyard that is crammed with plants and, weirdly enough, geese.

You will be spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurants and bars, particularly in the vicinity of Placa Real, which is bustling at all hours of the day and night. The nightlife in the Gothic Quarter is exciting, to say the least, and there is no shortage of places where you can get a drink or dance the night away. In addition to being a great place to find pubs and cafes, Calle Ferran is located immediately to one side of Placa Reial and leads up to Placa Sant Jaume, which is home to several impressive government buildings.
