Yu Garden (or Yuyuan Garden) is an extensive Chinese garden located at Huangpu Qu, Shanghai Shi, next to the City God Temple in the northeast of Shanghai’s old town.
It encompasses Yuyuan Tourist Shop, Huxinting Teahouse, and Bazaar Yu Garden. The Garden dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and was owned by Pan Yunduan, a government official. ‘Yu’ in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially designed as a place for Pan’s parents to enjoy a quiet and happy time in their old age.
It is a wonderful and tranquil place in Shanghai and a must to visit when you are visiting the city.
