Monument to the Discoveries, Lisbon

The Monument to the Discoveries, located in Lisbon, Portugal, is a striking tribute to the country’s rich history of exploration and discovery. Surrounding this central feature are beautifully crafted sculptures depicting key figures from Portugal’s illustrious past, including explorers like Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral. Each figure stands tall against a backdrop of blue tiles that mimic waves crashing against a ship’s hull, adding depth and movement to this awe-inspiring monument.

At over 50 meters in height, the Monument to the Discoveries offers breathtaking views of Lisbon and beyond from its observation deck at the very top. Visitors can ascend via an internal lift or climb up a spiral staircase lined with historical information about each explorer featured on its façade.
