Iguassu Falls Tour From Puerto Iguazu W/ Itaipu Hydroelectric Factory: Brazil Side

Puerto Iguazu – Iguaçu National Park (Brazil) – Itaipu Dam

Iguassu Falls are the result of a volcanic eruption which left a large crack in the earth. They are taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide, with 275 cascading falls in a horseshoe fashion spanning nearly two miles. During the rainy season from November to March, the rate of water flow over the falls can surpass 450,000 cubic feet (12,750 cubic m) per second.

Devil’s Throat, or Garganta del Diablo, is best seen from the Brazilian side. Here fourteen falls drop 350 feet with such force that a 100-foot tall cloud of mist remains permanently suspended overhead.

Watch for the rainbow!

For a close-up, walk through the subtropical forest of Iguassu National Park to the base of Salto Floriano and take the elevator to the top of the falls, or walk out over the falls at Salto Union.

Itaipu Dam is the largest hydroelectric power plant in the world. Built on the Paraná River near the border between Brazil and Paraguay, the plant generates power equal to 12,600 Megawatts. That’s 25% of the electricity consumed by Brazil and 95% of the energy consumed by Paraguay.

The volume of concrete used to construct the reservoir could construct 210 stadiums the size of Maracaná. The iron and the steel used would be enough to construct a building 380 times the size of the Eiffel Tower. You don’t want to miss out on an opportunity to see one of the seven engineering wonders of modern world.
