Day 1: Ayutthaya, Lopburi Province, Phitsanulok
Visit Ayutthaya, where temple and palace ruins can still be found. Take a walk around the area and learn about the canal and river system that helped Ayutthaya thrive. Then, drive through the Thai countryside to Lopburi, where you’ll find a 13th-century Buddhist temple teeming with monkeys! After that, go to Phitsanulok to see the various houseboats.
Day 2: Sukhothai – Chiang Rai
Visit Sukhothai and visit the ruined temples while admiring the numerous standing Buddha statues. Then, for lunch, travel to Si Satchanalai, which is close by. Later, travel to Chiang Rai from rural Thailand. Rest in Phayao, a small 11th-century town along the way.
Day 3: Chiang rai – Mae Ka Chan – Chiang Rai
Several hill tribe villages will be visited. Rest in the Chinese settlement of Doi Mae Salong to take in the scenery. Visit the Akha and Yao tribes, where villagers still wear traditional clothing and learn about village customs. Later, visit Mae Sai, Thailand’s most northern region, which is close to the Myanmar border.
Drive to the Golden Triangle’s center, where the Ruak and Mekong Rivers converge. Views of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand, as well as the mighty rivers below, are accessible. After that, go to Chiang Saen, where you can still see remnants of the original 13th-century settlement.
Day 4: Chiang Rai – Mae Ka Chan
Depart for Chiang Mai with your guide, stopping first in Mae Ka Chan, famous for its hot spring.
Day 5: Sankampaeng – Sankampaeng Hot Springs
Visit an elephant camp, where knowledgeable mahouts (trainers) explain how elephants have performed in the jungle for centuries. Observe with awe as the elephants demonstrate their intellect and courage. Visit the Sankampaeng district, where Chiang Mai’s cottage industries thrive, after lunch at a local restaurant. Keep an eye on the artisans as they make beautiful crafts.
Day 6: End of tour
