Pike Place Market is a public market in Seattle, Washington, United States, overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront. The Market opened on August 17, 1907, and is one of the United States’ oldest continuously operating public farmers’ markets. It is a location for many small farmers, craftsmen and merchants to do business. Pike Place is named after the main street that extends northwest from Pike Street to Virginia Street. Pike Place Market is Seattle’s most popular tourist destination and is the 33rd most visited tourist attraction in the world, with more than 10 million tourists annually.
Today there are more than 500 shops, vendors, restaurants, and bars in the multilevel area. The MarketFront development just south of Victor Steinbrueck Park brought in additional open-air space for vendors and new restaurants in 2017, as well as a redesigned public square with views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
