Itinerary

Day 1: Hilo

You will be moved to an ocean view hotel upon your arrival at Hilo International Airport.

Passengers arriving by noon can, at their own rate, join one of the optional tours below:

Day 2: Volcanoes National Park – Akatsuka Orchid Gardens – Richardson Beach Park – Rainbow Falls

We’ll be visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park this morning, which includes one of the most active volcanoes in the world: Kilauea. Then we will visit the Jaggar Museum, the Thurston Lava Tunnel, and the Orchid Garden of Akatsuka. Then we will visit the Macadamia Nut Factory, where we will learn about macadamia nut cultivation and harvesting.

Big Island - Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Driving Tour

We’re going to visit Richardson Beach Park after lunch. You’ll see a green sea turtle lying on the cliffs if you’re lucky. Our next stop is the statue of King Kamehameha, where we’ll hear a little bit about Hawaiian culture. We’re going to take a drive to see the famous Rainbow Falls then.

Day 3: Akaka North Shore One Day Tour

We will visit Kalapana Magma today, then travel to the Big Island’s east coast, enjoying the scenery along the way. Then, after the 2018 volcanic eruption of the Big Island, we will arrive at the black sand beach of Puhoiki to see the newly formed black sand beach and seawater hot springs. The new beach of black sand emits a metallic sheen that glows in the light.

Then we’ll be back for lunch in the ancient city of Hilo. In the afternoon, we will continue to drive to Akaka Falls on the Big Island’s north shore to see the very long Big Island waterfalls where we can drive. You’ll eventually stop at the farmer’s market. Freshly produced papaya and other seasonal tropical fruits can be purchased. We’ll return to the hotel later to rest and finish off today’s itinerary.

Day 4: Hilo

We’ll transfer you to the Hilo International Airport on the last day of your 4-Day Hawaii Big Island Tour.
