Quick facts

The Van Gogh Museum is a art museum dedicated to the works of Vincent van Gogh and several of his contemporaries and it is located in Amsterdam. It is situated on Museum Square in Amsterdam South district, opposite Stedelijk Museum, Rijksmuseum and Concertgebouw Museum.

The museum opened on 2 June 1973, and famous architects Gerrit Rietveld and Kisho Kurokawa designed the  buildings.

The museum houses the world’s largest collection of paintings and sculptures by Van Gogh. The museum had 2,3 million visitors in 2017, and it was the most visited museum in the Netherlands, and the 23rd most visited museum of art in the world.

Not only the museum and gallery are worth a visit, but the building itself is an amazing piece of architecture that also needs exploring.

The Van Gogh Museum unveiled the Meet Vincent Van Gogh Experience in 2019, a technology-driven “immersive show” about the life and works of Van Gogh, which has traveled around the globe.

You can explore the collection on your own and let the works talk for themselves. If you would like more information about the painter and his works, but would still like to explore the museum at your own pace, then a multimedia tour is available in ten languages.
