Zurich – Lucerne – Mt. Stanserhorn – Lucerne – Zurich
Meet your guide at a downtown Zurich meeting place and board an air-conditioned coach for a breathtaking tour of Switzerland’s countryside. As you walk parallel to the shore of Lake Lucerne, amid crumbling limestone cliffs and flower-filled meadows, take in the lush scenery.
When you arrive in Lucerne, go on a short panoramic drive with your professional guide to view spectacular monuments including Chapel Bridge and the Lion Monument, as well as learn about the city’s intriguing history. Then enjoy a picturesque drive to Stans, where a 19th-century funicular train has recently been renovated.
Enjoy a lovely ride through floral meadows and swooping valleys before disembarking at the railway station to independently explore the region. Conquer your trepidation and get onboard the CabriO, an open-top aerial cable car with breathtaking views of the surrounding Alpine scenery, as recommended by your guide.
Ascend to Mount Stanserhorn’s towering top and take in the breathtaking views as you reach a height of 6,230 feet (1,900 meters). Before taking a short stroll to Marmot Park, a beautiful nature reserve where animals survive in their natural setting, scan the horizon for 10 lakes and more than 62 miles (100 km) of the Swiss Alps mountain range.
Return to Stans to meet your guide after enjoying a unique meal experience in the mountaintop’s revolving restaurant (at your own expense). Return to Lucerne by train and, following some more free time in the attractive city, take your return coach to Zurich.
After having made your way to the meeting point (Sihlquai Coach Parking, Limmatstrasse 4) in central Zurich, depart with your knowledgeable guide aboard a comfortable coach through the scenic countryside of central Switzerland. Relax on the journey along the Albis – a chain of wooded hills – and pass the shores of Lake Lucerne.
Admire the beautiful 24-mile-long (39-kilometer-long) lake nestled amid towering limestone cliffs. Your guide will show you the important sights of Lucerne as you drive into town, such as the stunning Chapel Bridge and the Jesuit Church. Enjoy some free time to wander around the Old Town and discover the charming lanes, squares, churches, and homes with medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. Count the nine watchtowers atop the well-preserved 14th-century town walls and see the 15th-century town hall.
Then take the coach to Stans, a village surrounded by orchards, where you may ride the vintage funicular railway, which was erected in 1893 and was recently renovated. You’ll enjoy an unforgettable trip to the valley past flowery meadows before disembarking at the station. Your guide will meet you here and give you all of the pertinent information and timetables. So you’re all set to spend your afternoon on Mt. Stanserhorn on your own.
CabriO – Mount Stanserhorn
Take the CabriO to the peak of Mt Stanserhorn, which rises 6,230 feet (1,900 meters) above sea level and is the world’s first open-top aerial cable car. Enjoy the spectacular view from the gondola’s roofless upper deck as you ascend during the 25-minute journey.
Take in the view from the summit, which includes more than ten lakes and 62 miles (100 kilometers) of the Swiss Alps mountain range. After that, take a short trek to the top of Stanserhorn and visit the Marmot Park to see the animals in their natural habitat. Dine on a traditional Swiss lunch (at your own expense) in the Rondorama, a revolving restaurant with spectacular views.
After returning to Stans, take the public train back to Lucerne for some additional free time in the charming city. In the evening you meet your tour guide again, who takes you back to Zurich by coach.
The guide will drop you off at the same place in central Zurich, where you started the tour in the morning.
