Enid A. Haupt Conservatory (Year-Round)
The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory is a stunning example of Victorian-style glasshouse artistry, and a New York City Landmark. It is home to A World of Plants, which showcases the wonders of the Garden’s living collections in lush tropical rain forests, cactus-filled deserts, curated displays of palms from around the world, aquatic and carnivorous plants, and much more. From early summer through fall, the Courtyards come alive with vibrant hardy and tropical water lilies and graceful lotus.

The Conservatory also hosts the Garden’s seasonal exhibitions, including the annual Orchid Show and Holiday Train Show and themed flower shows that reveal surprising connections between plants and culture. These immersive experiences will transport you to another time and place and dazzle you with their ingenious designs.

Everett Children’s Adventure Garden (Year-Round)
The colored streamers at the front gate of the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden welcome visitors of all ages to a playful space. Here there are countless opportunities for children of all ages to explore the wonders of science and nature.

Climb the boulders and view the landscape below from your high perch. Dash through Beth’s Maze, then invent your own plant in Plant Part Paradise. Check out the cattails and lily pads at Habitat Hub. Fun, hands-on science activities and experiments enhance the experience in the Adventure Garden throughout every season. Discover all of our outdoor nature exploration programs for families here.

An imaginative staff and a corps of energetic teen Explainers hailing from all over New York City bring family-friendly adventures to life here every day. If you are interested in joining our team of interns, apply to be a part of the Explainer Program.

Native Plant Garden (Year-Round)
Designed by Sheila Brady of the great American landscape architecture firm Oehme van Sweden, this 3.5 acre garden celebrates the beauty of plants native to northeastern North America. Nearly 100,000 native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, ferns, and grasses were planted in a carefully planned contemporary design that harmonizes with the natural landscape.

Many of the plants here provide shelter and sustenance for wildlife, making this garden a magnet for squirrels, chipmunks, frogs, and a colorful array of birds and butterflies. The serene pool at the center of the garden is fed by recycled stormwater and purified by aquatic plants and a sophisticated filtration system before being recirculated over a series of stone weirs.

The Native Plant Garden is a gift of the Leon Levy Foundation.

Rock Garden (April-November)
Our Rock Garden has been described as one of the most beautiful gardens of its kind in the world. This quiet, intimate space nestled against the Thain Family Forest feels miles away from the bustle of New York City.

Built in the 1930s, this 2.5-acre oasis boasts hundreds of jewel-like alpine flowers nestled among its gravel beds, rocks and crevices and sweeps of rare and graceful woodland plants sheltered under mature spreading trees. A gently cascading waterfall and stream flow to a tranquil flower-rimmed pond. The combination of the Rock Garden’s bright color palette and its sculptural and textural qualities makes it a feast for the eyes from spring to fall.
