We leave Vancouver in the morning and travel through the picturesque Fraser Valley, enter a semi-desert region and stop at Merritt. The tour remains in Kamloops after dinner. We’re heading to Wells Gray Park later today, visiting the Clear Water Visitor Center and staying overnight at Valemount.
Mount Robson is the Canadian Rockies ‘ lowest point. We join Jasper National Park after passing by. There is the scenic Lake Patricia, which is sufficiently evident to demonstrate the mountain landscape reflection. As the name indicates, Pyramid Lake is based as the backdrop of the lake on an altitude of 2.800 m high Pyramid Mountain. The town of Jasper was constructed in 1813, once known as The Bay Company’s base. Jasper has now become a huge national park and a famous destination for tourists.
Next is a visit to Maligne Canyon, the biggest calcareous river system in the world. The canyon is 55 km long and is the Rocky Mountain’s longest and deepest canyon. You can choose to join the Maligne Lake Cruise (optional) or take a panoramic trip through the magical Maligne Lake’s glass waters that are fed by Jasper National Park glaciers. Glide past the jagged mountain peaks as we travel to Spirit Island, a world-famous boat-only destination.
Icefields Parkway is a picturesque highway that travels to Jasper National Park through Banff National Park. We arrive at Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park after passing through the strong, scenic Athabasca Falls. It has a 325 sq iced region. Km and depth up to 365 m. One of the glaciers supplied by the Icefield is Athabasca Glacier. After a ride on the gigantic snow coach over the steep grades up the glacier, we can step on this glacier.
Another exciting experience of the glacier is to walk on a glass-floored walkway of 280 m that extends over the Sunwapta Valley. A bird’s eye view provides the most unique perspective of nature at its best. Along with the Icefields Parkway, there is the Bow Lake, a beautiful glacier-fed lake in Banff National Park. The last stop today will be the Banff town, a resort town and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Canada, known for its mountainous surroundings and hot springs.
Bow Falls on the Bow River is a significant waterfall. The falls were featured in the 1953 Marilyn Monroe movie “River of No Return.” Then we’ll visit Banff’s most popular lake–Lake Louise, Alberta’s hamlet. Taking Lake Louise’s gondola (optional), you’ll appreciate a view of the natural beauty of the emerald-green lake and the Victoria glacier above it. Traveling through the Roger Pass in the center of the Glacier National Park, we can see the final portion of the Trans-Canada Highway finished in 1962.
The Canadian Pacific Railway’s Last Spike was pushed in 1885 and marked the CPR’s completion. The job was performed primarily by Chinese underpaid employees. The site is denoted by a historic obelisk with the railway’s building names and information. We’re going to visit the “VQA” winery after dinner in Merritt and taste the renowned Canadian Ice Wine. The Rocky trip will end in the evening in Vancouver.
