Itinerary
Day 1: Arequipa
Welcome! Welcome to Arequipa!
You will arrive at Arequipa Airport today, where we will pick you up and drop you off at the hotel.
We will take a tour of the White City in the afternoon, starting in the beautiful colonial district of San Lazaro, where Arequipa was founded. We will walk from here through its picturesque streets adorned with geraniums and then go to the viewpoint of Carmen Alto to see the beautiful scenery of the farming terraces and the three volcanoes that surround the city: Misti, Chachani and Pichu-Pichu.
Then we will head to the Yanahuara Colonial District, famous for its church in the Andalusian style and its viewpoint, a jewel of architecture surrounded by arches of sillar (volcanic stone). Then we will visit the Monastery of Santa Catalina, an impressive religious monument that has been closed for about 400 years, with narrow streets , squares and gardens reminiscent of Seville or Granada ‘s old quarters.
We will continue to the main square to see its beautiful cathedral and the stone arches that surround it, and finally, it is time to visit the Society of Jesus Church, founded by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century, renowned for its cloisters and the magnificent Dome of San Ignacio.
Day 2: Arequipa – Colca Canyon
We’ll say farewell to Arequipa today and head to the beautiful Colca Valley, fly to the foothills of the Chachani Volcano and admire the volcanoes of Misti and Picchu Picchu. Then we will cross the Pampa Cañahuas Vicuñas reservation, where we will see them roaming free in the high Andean lands.
We’ll stop on our way to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, you can rest and enjoy the hotel free of charge or take an optional visit to the thermal baths in the city.
Day 3: Colca Canyon – Puno
We will go to the Condor Cross Viewpoint early in the morning. A shocking flight of condors in front of us, massive Andean birds on the verge of extinction and a sign of the Andes Mountains. The view at this location helps us to understand the depth of the canyons, known as one of the deepest in the world.
Then we will visit the towns of Maca and Yanque, which still maintain colonial churches.
Before setting off for Puno, we’ll have lunch at a nearby restaurant. The journey takes 6 and a half hours or so. We can move to the hotel upon our arrival after arriving at the bus station.
Day 4: Puno – Lake Titicaca – Puno
We’ll have a full day of exploring Lake Titicaca today.
We’ll visit the Uros first, the welcoming inhabitants of these handmade islands made of reeds of Totora.
Then it’s off to Taquile Island, a location where colonists still preserve their ancestral customs and traditional colorful clothing. A wonderful chance to visit the island and get the best view of the bay. On the island, a lunch box is given.
In the afternoon, we’ll return to the city.
Day 5: Puno – Sillustani – Juliaca
In the afternoon, we will visit the Hatun Colla Chiefs’ pre-Inca cemetery in Sillustani, on the shore of Lake Umayo.
This is a fantastic trip to see the funeral towers up to six meters high, or Chullpas. Then we will visit Lampa, also known as the “Pink City,” the colonial plateau area, because most of the houses are painted with chocorosí, clay-like material brought from the surrounding hills. In order to see a reproduction of Michelangelo’s “Pieta” and paintings from the Cusqueño school, we will visit St. James’ church. Lunch boxes.
We will move to Juliaca for your departure flight afterwards.
