National War Memorial of Canada

The National War Memorial of Canada, also referred to as “The Response,” is a cenotaph that symbolizes the sacrifice of all members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have served Canada in times of war in the cause of peace and freedom in the past, present, or future. This includes both those who have served in the past and those who will serve in the future. The ceremony honoring veterans will take place at the memorial on November 11, which is known as Remembrance Day.

To honor the contributions made by Canadians during the First World War (1914–1918), the National War Memorial was revealed to the public for the first time in 1939. The memorial was rededicated to the memory of all Canadians who have served their country during times of war because it has come to represent the sacrifice made by all Canadians who have done so over the years.
