Gullfoss

A waterfall in southwestern Iceland, Gullfoss is situated on the route of the golden circle in the canyon of the Hvítá river.

A nature reserve was created in 1979 by Gullfoss and its environments. This was used to protect the waterfall permanently and to allow the public to enjoy this unique area. This reserve is managed by the Environment Agency of Iceland.

Gullfoss is named after the golden color which often shines in its glacial waters. Tiered Cataract is Gullfoss and has a total height of 32 m. The longest drop is 21 meters in height and has two falls. It is on the river Hvitá in the southwest of Iceland
