Salzkammergut

The Salzkammergut World Heritage Site, an expansive area that covers 52 municipalities, is basically the Austrian Lake District. Salzakmmergut is composed of numerous lakes and mountains, stretching from Salzburg to the Dachstein Mountains, making it a popular tourist destination for adventure travelers looking to climb, cycle, and swim through this magnificent area. Most popular municipalities here are Hallstatt and St. Gilgen, where Mozart’s mother was born.
