In the city’s historic core, you’ll find the majority of the 11 museums that make up the Bratislava City Museum. Devin Castle and the Ancient Gerulata Museum in Rusovce are two notable exceptions. It is possible that the Old Town Hall, Apponyi House, and the birthplace of Johann Nepomuk Hummel were the sites of the first thematically installed exhibitions in the 1920s and 1930s.

Bratislava City ViewsIn the 1960s and 1970s, the museum’s displays grew even larger. Most of the existing museums were founded during this time period. The museum named after Arthur Fleischmann first opened its doors at the turn of the century.

The Museum of Historical Interiors and the reestablished Museum of Viticulture both opened in 2005–2007 as part of the Apponyi Palace restoration project. After extensive renovations were completed in 2011, the Old City Hall, where the Museum of City History is housed, reopened to the public.
